About the Department
According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), approximately 1 in 4 people are afflicted with a mental disorder and 1 in 17 suffers from a serious mental illness. Furthermore, many who receive such a diagnosis also suffer from more than one disorder at a time. Diseases and disorders of the mind affect not only one's health and sense of wellbeing but also the lives of family and friends. However, there is hope! Technological advances in science have equipped our experts in the field with tools to effectively address mental illness and search for better treatment, prevention and cures.
Goals for the department include expanding research and education programs, improving patient care and treatment, and increasing awareness of mental and behavioral disorders through community engagement programs. We encourage you to learn more about our department--the work we accomplish and our dedicated team of trainees, staff and faculty. Join our efforts and together we can continue our advocacy on behalf of the more than 55 million people who suffer from mental illness.
